Some time ago, I was interviewed for a magazine, and they wanted to know three of the best books I have ever read.
Well, if you were to wander around my library, you’d know that’s not an easy question to answer. And the three that I choose today may not be the ones I would choose tomorrow.
But there is one book that keeps coming up, over and over again. It’s only about 35 pages; however, it’s mind-boggling. It’s called You2 by Price Pritchett.
I’ve shared ideas from this book many times before. I keep coming back to it because it contains so much valuable information that flies in the face of how we’ve been programmed to think.
I’m going to share some things from the book with you today. However, before I do, I want you to think of a goal that you currently have.
Have you got your goal in mind?
Okay, now take a look at what Pritchett says:
Most people operate with a mindset that assumes success comes one step at a time.
The unspoken but popular notion is that we must move systematically from our present level of achievement to the next.
Then, the thinking goes, from that stage we can begin working toward graduating to still the next higher level in the sequence. Gradual progress.
This is an unfortunate misconception, and it’s clearly reflected in the way people function.
They go about, day to day, striving to make incremental gains in their performance. That’s pretty routine. That’s the pathway of conventional growth.
Now isn’t that the truth!
Most people set goals that they know they can achieve…
They go for the 5% raise, selling 10% more than they did the previous year, or the base model of the car they want instead of the fully-loaded version.
An unconventional way to look at growth
Here’s what comes next in this marvelous little book:
But your life simply does not always have to operate that way.
Advancing at a measured pace—step by step from where you are to a little bit better—ordinarily feels easier, more natural, and even safer.
But in certain areas of your life you can just as easily think in terms of skipping levels. You can move from your present level of achievement to one that is several stages higher—directly.
I did that more than 50 years ago. I had never read a book in my life. I picked up Napoleon Hill’s book, “Think and Grow Rich,” and my whole life changed. I went from earning $4,000 to $175,000 a year. And then I took it to over a million.
Why most people don’t make big jumps
Most people don’t make quantum leaps because they never plan it. They plan to do what Pritchett described—improve gradually.
However, instead of being content with gradual improvement, go for a breakthrough.
How?
By not accepting your current circumstances, and deciding to look far beyond where you are.
Pritchett says:
Quantum leaps won’t happen if you’re living life with a lukewarm heart.
Passion is a very important part of the process. It fires the soul and fills the spirit, energizing your heart and mind for the quantum leap to a higher plane of performance. Passion also keeps you going when you’re hit with problems and uncertainty.
But passion itself must be fueled, and you feed that flame with visions of a dream that is dramatic. The emotional intensity inside must burn hot enough to protect you against the chilling effects of doubt, uncertainty, criticism and failure. Only deep desire can generate such heat.
Be illogical
In other words, you’ve got to give yourself permission to pursue what you want most…
So pick the greatest goal you can think of. The thing at the top of the mountain that you’ve dreamed of. The thing that gets or keeps you wound up.
And then get a card and write: I’m so happy and grateful now that…
Then, fill in the details of your remarkable goal in the present tense, as if you’ve already got it.
Now, you may have heard me say that before; however, you might not know why it’s critical that you do it.
You see, when you write the details of your goal on the card, you can see it in your conscious mind. And if you can see it in your mind, you can share it with me. And you couldn’t give it to me if you didn’t have it.
You know, 67 years before Jesus was born, Horace said, “You cannot give what you have not got.”
I think Horace was right.
But you want to know something? The opposite is also true—you can give what you have got.
This is an absolute law
Every time you think about your image with joy and gratitude, you get emotionally involved with the idea. And you plant it in your heart of hearts, which is the subconscious mind. That’s the part of your mind the early Greeks referred to as the heart.
That’s critical because you don’t become what you think about in your conscious mind. It’s as Solomon said, “As a person thinketh in their heart, so are they.”
When you are involved with an image intellectually and emotionally, by law, it’s only a matter of time before it moves into form.
It’s like planting a carrot seed in the ground. If you fertilize the ground and keep it free of weeds, you know that carrot is going to grow in a given period of time.
How to carry your goal card
Make sure you carry the card loose in your purse or pocket because every time you touch the card, your sensory factor sends a message screaming through your central nervous system.
Allow me to explain why…
Writing causes thinking. When you write on your card, the image is impregnated into some of your brain cells. So every time you touch the card, it activates those cells, and the image comes up. It’s like throwing a light switch, and the lights go on.
A secret about my first goal card
I have been carrying a goal card for a long time. My first goal was to earn $25,000.00.
Now, I will let you in on a secret. I did not believe it would happen, but do you know what I found?
If you write what you want on the card, and keep reading it and touching it, you are going to start to believe it.
And as William James said, “Believe and your belief will actually create the fact.”
It truly will be only a period of time before you enjoy your goal in the physical world.
What’s your story?
Can you make a quantum leap?
Absolutely!
Study You2 over and over again.
Understand this goal-setting process and use it.
It will make you happy. It will make you healthy. It will make you very wealthy. And it will put you in a position to be able to give more to more people.
So tell us…
Have you ever experienced a quantum leap? Do you know anyone else who has?
Do you carry a goal card every day and read it several times a day? What has been your experience with this process?
Don’t be shy. Your story may help someone else have a meaningful breakthrough.
To your success,
Bob Proctor
