You have to believe in yourself—even when no one else does. It makes you a winner.
My goals and dreams, and my attitude toward them, are why, at 87, I am still really excited to get out of bed early every morning.
And do you know what’s at the root of everything I do?
Making every person I encounter feel better and expect more. So, I always focus on giving them my best. Giving to others never depletes me; it enriches my life in countless ways.
Here’s why…
Givers Gain
To fully appreciate what I’m talking about, you should give some thought to the common denominator amongst people—we are all spiritual beings.
You then have to consider the fundamental truth that spirit is always for expansion and fuller expression. It is for increase, and increase is what all people are seeking. It is the urge of the spiritual essence within us to find fuller expression.
But don’t just accept what I’m saying—look around you.
Consider sports, for example. If people are running, they want to run faster, and if they are jumping, they want to jump higher.
And in sales, people want to sell more. Companies are never interested in holding the line; they are forever trying to improve their products and services and improve the bottom line of their financial statement.
Increase is, without question, the natural urge of life seeking expression.
So, when you are honestly attempting to leave everyone with more and better—with the impression of increase—you are putting yourself in harmony with the higher side of the other person’s personality. People will quickly realize that by associating with you, they will enjoy increase for themselves.
If you always take honest pride in doing this and let everyone know that you are a giving person, you will have an abundant life.
However, you must show and not tell who you are. Let your way of life telegraph your beautiful truth—you leave everyone with the impression of increase. People know you are a giving person through your actions, not your words.
A critical aspect of giving is that it must be spontaneous. If you have to think about whether you should give or not, you are very likely trading. That is what most people do, and they mistakenly call it giving.
Giving should be a habit. It should be a free-flowing action—a part of your habitual nature. We should willingly give and graciously receive.
Your Attitude and the World
Your attitude toward the world determines the world’s attitude toward you.
When giving becomes part of your paradigm, the universe will constantly, without interruption, send good in your direction.
Think about it like this for a moment. The Law of Cause and Effect teaches us that energy always returns to its source of origination, and action and reaction are equal and opposite. So, what you put out comes back to you.
If you make it a habit to leave others with the impression of increase, it will change your life forever.
A Simple Explanation
Simply put, to convey the impression of increase, you must want the same for everybody that you want for yourself. It’s leaving others feeling better than before they met you.
However, as wonderful as the idea of the impression of increase is, no amount of reading or memorizing information will make you successful in life. What counts is understanding and applying wise ideas.
For example, each day if we simply…
- Practice gratitude
- Keep moving forward toward the good things we want in life
- Always do our best
- Bring a loving and proactive spirit to everything we do
- Celebrate other people’s gifts and highlight what they are doing well
…we will cultivate a positive attitude, feel good about ourselves, and leave others feeling good too.
Start Today
Decide right now that you will leave every person that you encounter with the impression of increase. Then, start saying things to people that make them feel good about themselves.
It may feel awkward at first. However, it will get easier because there is so much good about every person. If you look for it, you’re going to see it.
And when you do see it, do you know what you’re going to see?
A reflection of the good that’s in you.
Isn’t that beautiful?
Here are seven simple things you can start saying or doing to convey the impression of increase to others:
- Give them genuine compliments.
- Ask questions about them and listen to their answers.
- Point out their accomplishments.
- Smile as much as possible and use their name.
- Acknowledge their effort.
- Point out how kind they are.
- Pay attention to and acknowledge the little things they do that make other people’s lives better or easier.

It Opens the Floodgates
Maintain a positive attitude and form the habit of leaving everyone with the impression of increase. When you send positive energy to everyone you meet—whether you know them or not and regardless of their behavior toward you, you will be rewarded abundantly.
It may be difficult to see how you will benefit from helping a person you don’t know, and you may never see again. Nevertheless, know it will come back to you because you are an expression of a universal power, and, by law, the universe will reward you.
Most people receive their good through the keyhole. Now that you understand that you are working with universal laws, open the doors and windows and expect good to come from all places. You’ll be delighted you did.
To your success,
