When the doctor gave the terminal cancer diagnosis, my mom was only expected to live 6 to 9 months more. With such a limited amount of time left in her life, I asked her, “What’s on your bucket list?”
“I want to go back to Florida to see my friends one last time,” she said, reminiscing about the winter home in Florida she and my father bought after their retirement. Although 10 years had passed since their return to Toronto where my dad passed away, my mom had maintained close ties with their old friends in the sunshine state.
For her “bucket list” trip, Denis, my husband, and I, pampered my mother by renting a beautiful home on a golf course. As my mom’s health deteriorated, her friends would stop by for short visits between which she would take naps. To give her peace and quiet, Denis and I would sneak away on long walks together.
We strolled along verdant pathways that snaked through the manicured grounds of the gated community, basking in the warm sunshine and enjoying nature’s serenity. Along the 8th hole, we passed a home with a For Sale sign in the yard. With no curtains on the windows or furniture in the rooms, it was plain to see that it was vacant.
“Why are you writing down the Realtor’s name and telephone number?” Denis asked curiously.
“I’m going to call him to schedule a visit when we get back to the house,” I said nonchalantly.
“What for?” he panicked, a puzzled looked flashed across his face. “We aren’t in the market to buy a house in Florida!”
Denis and I had been married for less than a year at this point, and he knew me to be a spontaneous person. However, he really hadn’t experienced the brunt of it yet.
He was right—we weren’t in the market to buy a house in Florida. But seeing that For Sale sign sparked an idea and a desire. The desire was like a spark that I knew could be fanned into a flame.
That evening, the Realtor gave Denis and me a tour of the home. With its high ceilings, double-sided fireplace between the living and dining rooms, a spacious, well laid out floor plan, upgraded kitchen, a lanai equipped with a hot tub, and sweeping views of the 8th and 9th holes, we fell in love with it.
I decided to buy it! There was only one challenge – I didn’t have the money to buy the house. However, I saw this as an opportunity.
My husband isn’t wired the same way that I am. While I feel entirely confident that things will work out, Denis feels an enormous discomfort with making decisions without knowing the “how”. I, on the other hand, never allow that to get in my way.
Within hours, the seller had accepted my offer, and in 60-days, I would take possession of this beautiful home on the golf course.
This was not our first home, nor would it be our main home. The new Florida house was intended for winter vacation getaways to escape the harsh cold of Ottawa. I began to visualize enjoying this home with friends and family, celebrating birthdays and holidays there. I saw it tastefully decorated and fully furnished. I knew my responsibility was to see us in the home, owning it and connecting to what it would feel like to do so. The intention I set as a declaration to the universe was to pay for it in cash within 60 days. I became very clear on what this goal materializing would look and feel like, then I made it happen. Right on schedule, I bought the home paid in full within the timeframe I had imagined.
I saw this experience as an opportunity for growth. As my wonderful friend and mentor Bob Proctor says: “Goals are not for what you get. They are for who you become.”
The moment the paperwork to purchase the house was signed, I went to work churning out ideas and recognizing opportunities. I knew I had something valuable to share with the world, and I started to create additional programs and services based on 3 things:
#1. Where was there a need in the marketplace that people wanted solved?
#2. What do I have of value to help fulfill that need?
#3. Would people pay for it?
Idea after idea flooded into my mind like water from a fire hydrant. In fact, there were so many ideas that I could have easily launched any one of them and created the funds to buy that house and many others.
I have been marketing on the internet for two decades now, and the opportunity for making money has only grown since that time. Today the internet offers even more abundant opportunities for anyone with the desire to follow their passion, make a difference and earn money.
People often tease me when they find out that I own almost 600 domain names. But, do they laugh when I tell them that I have sold some of my domains for thousands of dollars? Or, do they badger me when they discover that some of my domain names, all based on ideas, have earned me and my business millions of dollars from taking action? Every one of my domain names was sparked by an idea for a business, a solution and/or a service.
Big opportunities are everywhere. Napoleon Hill said: “Your big opportunity may be right where you are now.”
I believe the opportunities are right where you are now, and there is no better time to tap into a source of money earning than through the power of the internet. Do you have an online business? Have you ever thought about what you could bring to the world that would serve people in positive ways?
If so, follow this “tried and true” 3 steps formula for success:
1) Create a crystal clear vision of a goal you have in your mind.
2) Connect with the feeling of how fantastic it feels now that it is yours,
3) Take massive action.
Do these three things, and keep taking the next “right step” that presents itself to you, and you will soon find amazing results in your life.
