When the time is right, look at yourself and consider your current status and beliefs about the things you want most…

Vibrant health at any age. Beautiful, fulfilling relationships. Wealth and abundance. A perpetual state of happiness. Feeling connected to God and others.

Then think about how well your formal education has helped you achieve or feel fulfilled in each of the areas you identified.

I have a strong hunch that it won’t stack up very well because the educational system doesn’t teach you how to live from the inside out. Instead, it gives us a whole slew of facts to be taken in.

We use those facts to get good grades, get “good” jobs and make “good” money. And we worry about and try to change outside facts, such as bank account balances, sales sheets, and x-ray results, without changing what’s going on inside. But that approach never works.

There is, however, a far more effective approach. But it’s an approach that challenges our current beliefs about learning and the way we’ve been programmed to live our lives.

What education really means

The word education is derived from the Latin root ‘educo’ meaning “to educe, develop or draw out” from within. In other words, it’s not hammering information into our head; it’s becoming aware of and developing what we have inside.

Napoleon Hill, the author of Think and Grow Rich, said, “An educated person is not, necessarily, one who has an abundance of general or specialized knowledge. An educated person is one who has so developed the faculties of the mind that he may acquire anything he wants, or its equivalent, without violating the rights of others.”

That’s an astounding idea. Yet, when I did a seminar for 2,000 school teachers several years ago, not one could tell me what the mind’s faculties were.

Futurist Alvin Toffler once said, “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those people who cannot read and write but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.”

That is a powerful statement that applies to all of us, including PGI…

Up to this point, PGI has done a great job of helping people develop their mind so they can live the way they choose to live. But we’re not going to rest on our laurels. Everyone in our company is committed to lifelong study so we can learn, unlearn and relearn, as necessary, to find an even better way to serve.
