A Map for Success in 2020

The following goes without saying …

You want to step into 2020 feeling focused, excited, and unstoppable.

I want that for you, too.

So, today I’ll walk you down a path that will not only kick-start the New Year but also help you maintain your focus and excitement throughout the year.

If you stay on this path, you WILL be unstoppable in 2020.

But first, you must…

Get pointed in the right direction

Before you get started on this journey, you need only answer two questions:

  1. Where am I now?
  2. Where do I want to be a year from now?

You must do this because your answer to these questions will help to inform each of the decisions you make in the coming days, weeks, and months.

How I achieve success year after year…

Each year, I also answer the two questions I asked above. And I make sure my answer to the second question—where do I want to be?—is a big leap from where I am now.

However, the key to making big jumps each year is never letting my past or current results limit or sway me.

See, you’ve got to open your mind to all possibilities—anything and everything that appeals to you. Really let your imagination rip.

When you’ve exhausted your list of wants, choose the one thing you want more than anything else. Then, follow it up with daily habits and activities to support reaching that goal.

Why?

Because when you align your daily actions with a fantasy-like goal (what I call a “Type C Goal”), magic happens!

This process is how I went from owing more money than I was making many, many years ago to earning more than a million dollars a year.

It’s how I wrote my international best-selling book, You Were Born Rich.

It’s also how I landed spots on Larry King, Nightline, and Ellen, as well as being selected as one of the featured speakers on the runaway movie, The Secret.

Success is achieved one day at a time

I’m excited to share a “success” map you can follow in 2020 and beyond. But first, I’d like to explain some of the ideas and terms on the map that you may not be familiar with.

Create a Goal Card

Most people don’t reach their biggest goal because they keep it out in the future. They think, “I’ll be happy when…”

Instead of putting your wonderful goal in the future, write and say your goal in the present tense, as if the good you desire is already in your possession.

Here’s why this is important…

The image that’s in your mind always begins to move into form. So, if the image you’re carrying around with you is of your goal being realized sometime in the future, you’re never going to get it. However, if the image in your mind is that you already are, do, or have what you want, it will start to move into form NOW.

So, after you choose what you want, write your goal as one meaningful statement, written in the present tense, starting with:

“I’m so happy and grateful now that…”

When you commit to a big goal and really go after it, your subconscious mind comes up with ideas to make it happen. To keep your subconscious mind focused on what you want, carry your goal card with you at all times, and read it several times a day.

Raise Your Ceiling

You must spend time each day focusing on and nurturing a Success Mindset. To do that, pay attention to what you’re feeding yourself—physically, mentally, and spiritually—each day.

Also, practice thinking from the inside out (using your imagination, will, and intuition, for example, instead of letting your physical senses or your current results) dictate what you think about. One of the best ways to do that is to use tools like autosuggestion, affirmation, visualization, gratitude, and reading first thing in the morning and at various times throughout the day.

Goal Activity

As Earl Nightingale said, “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.”

Success doesn’t happen overnight. It happens one step and one day at a time as you move closer and closer to where you are going—your goal.

So, every night, ask yourself, “What are three bite-size things I can do tomorrow to move toward the achievement of my goal?” Write down your answer, prioritize your tasks, and make them a priority the next day.

Weekly Review

By planning to complete three goal-related activities each day, you make incremental and consistent progress towards your goal. However, you want to make sure it’s meaningful progress.

That’s where the weekly review comes in.

A weekly review is an opportunity to think about the past week, reflect on what went well and what didn’t, and plan for the week ahead. It’s a chance to check-in to make sure you’re aligned with your goal and to ensure that the work you’re doing each day is helping you reach it.

Quarterly Review

When you set your goal, break it down into specific quarterly objectives—with the objective for each quarter being bigger than the previous one.

For instance, if you want to earn $1,000,000 next year, your first quarter objective might be to earn $100,000. Then, you might aim to earn $200,000 in the second quarter, $300,000 in the third and $400,000 in the fourth quarter.

Review your notes and results at the end of each quarter, celebrate your achievements, and adjust as necessary.

Here’s a Map for Success in 2020

Start moving in the right direction today

You may know people who continually struggle to improve each year…

The salesperson whose sales are low and who is always struggling to do better—without success.

The athlete whose stats are subpar and don’t get much better no matter how many hours of practice he or she puts in.

The student whose marks are always at the ‘C’ level or even drop when pushed to study harder.

Why can’t they improve?

Let’s analyze this situation and discover the common error.

  1. These people are trying desperately to change their END RESULT.
  2. The RESULTS they’re getting are determined by their ACTIONS.
  3. Their ACTIONS are continually being motivated by their mindset.

They do not understand that their RESULTS are a direct reflection of their thoughts, their beliefs, their habits—their mindset.

They are clutched by an unseen enemy because there is no understanding of their mindset, which is the actual cause of their results.

Their error is a common one: they are identifying with their present results, which is in harmony with their present mindset when they should focus on changing their current mindset.

However, by following the process I outlined above, starting with answering the questions about where you and where you want to be, you will avoid this common error.

Instead of unconsciously focusing on your present results, each day, you will be motivated and driven by your desired results. By “raising your ceiling” and tuning in to what you want and who you want to be a few times a day, and taking small, bite-size actions daily, you are shifting your mindset to align with the results you really want in life.

It’s a simple and effective way to make a big move in 2020 and build momentum for a phenomenal new decade.
